This course will be of benefit to practitioners, in-house legal advisors, managers or HR professionals with no or limited employment law knowledge, who wish to gain a basic grounding of key employment law rights and obligations in practice. This course is the ideal partner to Employment Law - An Introduction: Discrimination Law and Practice.
Overview
You will be given an overview of basic employment law rights and obligations arising from starting employment through to dismissal. You will gain a balanced appreciation of the main concepts, rights and remedies arising out of the most common employment law topics enabling you to troubleshoot and advise on these topics with greater confidence.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Identify common issues encountered at the outset of employment;
- The meaning of ‘employee’
- Formation of the contract of employment
- Describe the main entitlements enjoyed by employees and workers during employment including;
- Maternity and paternity leave, parental leave, the right to request flexible working, time off to care for dependants
- Working time and national minimum wage
- Disciplinary and grievance handling
- Explain the key considerations applying when ending an employment relationship including;
- Termination of Employment – the fair reasons for dismissal
