This course will be of benefit to legal practitioners new to this area of law.
Overview
The ‘baby-boomers’ are maturing fast…the population is getting older. This demographic shift brings a raft of challenges, but also opportunities. This course will equip you with the practical skills to deal with elderly clients as well as an overview of the most important areas of law for this generation including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Advanced Decisions. Practical case studies will be covered in the course.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Ascertain whether a client has capacity and apply the test used to determine this.
- Identify difficult areas of conduct when dealing with elderly clients, especially third party instructions and ethical duties.
- Avoid negligence by applying promptly for a statutory will when the circumstance dictates.
- Recognise the importance of making living wills for all clients.
- Understand the role of Lasting Powers of Attorney’s.
