Develop interpersonal skills for your professional success

Introduction

The skills of a Senior Lawyer must evolve to keep pace with changes in professional and client demands and expectations. Technical excellence, fee earning and robust financial management are as important as ever but Senior Lawyers need to develop more comprehensive and wide ranging skills to allow them to improve their performance, realise their potential and capitalise on development and promotion opportunities.

The focus of Associate to Partner is to create or expand such skills by building the attributes and values which enable individuals both to flourish independently and to create positive, collaborative and co-operative relationships in the workplace.

The programme explores five themes, building up from a basic understanding of psychological concepts on a step-by-step basis.

Who should attend?

Associate to Partner is a skills development programme for lawyers with between 3 and 6 years PQE. The programme aims to develop performance and realise potential in Senior Lawyers, using theory and studies drawn from psychological science and developmental processes.

Module 4: Inspiring Others – Delegation & Feedback

A Senior Lawyer’s critical skill is the ability to bring out the best in other people whatever the circumstances or personalities.

Delegating and giving effective feedback is a vital part of Senior Lawyers’ work. The skills covered in previous modules are essential for this topic, and so will be briefly revised to check understanding. In addition, the focus of this day is the practice of the skills using workplace scenarios.

This all-day session will help you to:

  • Understand why people may feel anxious in delegating and in giving feedback and to feel more comfortable in so doing
  • Develop an empathetic and focused listening style
  • Encourage desired performance, behaviour and communication
  • Develop ways to identify and work together on areas requiring improvement
  • Create an atmosphere which encourages openness and honesty
  • Create a delegation strategy
  • Use resources efficiently
  • Plan a structure for giving feedback which can be tailored to individuals

Module 1: Mind Matters
Module 2: Working Within
Module 3: Inside Out
Module 5: Inspiring Others - Coaching & Mentoring

"A CPD certificate of completion will be provided by BPP Professional Education Limited upon request, following attendance."
