If you are new to dealing with advocacy in Child Care and Adoption law, then this course is for you. It will enable you to go through a series of hypothetical scenarios in this area.

Overview

The course will provide you the skills necessary for effective preparation and confidence in carrying out advocacy in this area. It is particularly useful for you if you are new to this area of the law, or are returning to it following a break. You will have the opportunity to prepare submissions in advance, in relation to situations typical of those faced in practice. With the assistance and guidance of the presenter you will have the opportunity to practice your advocacy in a safe, relaxed and confident manner.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

• Employ great client care and advocacy skills
• Construct excellent opening and closing speeches
• Compose appropriate submissions
• Understand the key to good examination-in-chief
• Utilise effective cross-examination
• Describe the purpose of re-examination
• Define the role of the lay magistrates, clerk and judges, and other court staff
• Explain court structure and court etiquette
• Understand advocacy for a directions hearings, the CMC and IRH
• Perform advocacy at an agreed hearings and contested hearings
• Prepare effectively for advocacy
