Management Accountant to Finance Director - Module 5: Project & Stakeholder Management

Introduction

You've made, or are just about to make, the crucial step from accountant to a senior finance professional such as financial controller or director. In order to succeed at this level you need strong interpersonal skills - technical skills alone will not be enough. This five day modular course is aimed at enhancing these important interpersonal skills to help deal with the new and challenging environment which you will soon be facing. It's carefully tailored to the needs of those aspiring to a senior finance role.

These workshops are aimed at individuals recently appointed to, or aspiring to, senior positions such as financial controller or director where interpersonal and communication skills are expected from the board and other senior executives. They are applicable to both the private and public sector.

Overview

You need to have the project and stakeholder management skills to lead and steer large and diverse projects such as an acquisition and associated due diligence or a major systems implementation. Most projects have an extensive group of stakeholders both directly and indirectly involved in the project. Project and stakeholder management skills are also highly relevant to more routine ‘projects’ such as year end reporting and the budget process.

This workshop will help you:

• define a project and specify its outputs
• map out the stakeholders and proactively engage and leverage their input and manage their reaction
• plan to complete the project within budget, on time and to the required quality
• implement the plan, taking into account team issues, monitoring its progress and taking corrective action
• evaluate a project and hand over the completed work
• understand the advantages and common pitfalls of project working
• action planning and self evaluation
