This half day course has been developed primarily for accountants and analysts who need to know more about the latest Exposure Draft (ED) on insurance contracts. It may also be of interest to other professionals working with insurance groups.

Course Content

On 20 June 2020, the IASB published a revised exposure draft (ED) on the accounting for Insurance contracts. The ED has been issued reflecting the IASBs response to the comments received on the 2020 ED.

This half-day is designed to give participants an overview of the latest thinking on Insurance accounting, which has been a long-standing project for the IASB. There are no pre-requisites for the course, but a basic understanding of how the insurance industry operates, and the fundamental accounting rules would be helpful, which is also provided in a separate course ‘Accounting for Insurance Companies’.

Learning outcomes include obtaining a greater understanding of:

  • Scope and definitions within the insurance contracts exposure draft (‘ED’)
  • Overview of the current measurement model proposed by the ED
  • Review of presentation and disclosure requirements in the ED
  • Review of changes between revised ED for insurance contracts and 2020 ED
  • Practical considerations and discussion

"A CPD certificate of completion will be provided by BPP Professional Education Limited upon request, following attendance."
